Is homeschooling an answer?
Being a visual learner to the core, I was driven towards homeschooling when I found one of my students struggling for right the kind of education. They had just shifted to a new city. I am inspired by movies, people, nature, books, etc, and the Primary Source of suggesting the new way of learning and teaching came from a movie, not to name it.
And further To my surprise most of the surveys on homeschooling are of UK, Canada, France, Japan, Russia not much about India. Thus diving deeper into it in our country found and the dichotomies echoing attention.
One side the possibilities of homeschooling before the pandemic and after the pandemic. Before was the want of the parent and now we see it as the rising need. The Sooner the parent community realizes it is in the favor of young minds.
Four major reasons why parent opted before the pandemic:
1. Traumatic incident
2. Learning difficulties or disabilities
3. Change of location
4. High IQ which had its own socializing challenges versus the new now :
- Disconnect with peers and the teacher
- The rat race of completing the planner of the day and lastly
- Parent being available
Life is beautiful with one of the parents playing an active role in the education process. Learning and learning many things and planning the execution of the homeschooling timetable.
What calls for attention is the reality of how long can a parent take this role with patience, focus, self-control, engaged learning techniques every day, able to take child’s perspective, and communicate with the peers who are homeschooling.
Should homeschooling too have standardized/equivalency tests to join mainstream after a year? Who is engaged and working on these 2020 education challenges?
